Matale Thomians outplay Old Boys

The Present cricketers of St. Thomas’ College Matale performed well to beat their past cricketers in their annual matches organised by the Thomian Past Cricket Wing (TPCW) played last week at the College ground.

Batting first the Old Boys scored 150 for 5 in 20 overs. Former skipper Ravi Punchihewa scored a quick-fire 58 with eight fours and three sixes while Namal Padmakumara also made a useful contribution of 37.

Anuruddha did the damage for the Present Boys capturing 3 for 25.

In reply, the Present Boys scored 163 for 4 wickets in 20 overs with Kavindu Senaratne (32), Malinga Bandara (30) and K. Shamalka (29) being the chief contributors.

Ravi Punchihewa was the pick of the bowlers taking 2/21 and his efforts gave him the ‘man of the tournament’ award in the two match series.

The second game too saw the Present Boys beat the Old Boys by 47 runs. The Present Boys scored 163 runs for four wickets and in reply the Old Boys scored just 116 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs.

PH Chandradasa of the Old Thomian team was adjudged best fielder. This tournament was organised to focus on cricket development activities and the TPCW donated cricket gear to the present cricket team.

Niranjan Ellepola the chairman of the TPCW was the chief guest and presented the awards.
