Vesak Full Moon Poya day falls today. Buddhists around the world commemorate the significant events of Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and passing away on Vesak Full Moon. Vesak Poya is significant for Sri Lanka as the Buddha visited Kelaniya on the invitation of Naga King Maniakkhika of Kelaniya. Sri Lankans celebrate Vesak with much pomp and pageantry while giving the foremost place to religious activities such as Sil campaigns, Bodhi poojas, Dansalas, Bhakthi Gee, pandals and illuminated lanterns.
