
Ayurvedic doctor dies in road-rage incident
THALANGAMA: A homeless man is alleged to have stabbed to death an ayurvedic doctor in a road-rage incident close to an up-market shopping mall in Thalangama last week, police said.
They said the 57-year-old victim died of his injuries while under treatment at the Koswatte Government Hospital.
Initial investigations have revealed that a heated argument had broken out between the suspect and the victim and this led to the ayurvedic doctor’s death.
According to police, the entire incident had been captured by nearby security cameras and the suspect could be easily identified.
However, the suspect who fled the scene after the attack is yet to be arrested, police said.
Man dies, son injured as armed gang raids house
KELANIYA: A 63-year-old man was killed and his son seriously injured after a group of armed people stormed their home at Waragoda, Kelaniya on Tuesday night, police said.
They said the suspects armed with swords and clubs had attacked the victims before fleeing the scene along with a house deed and other valuables.
The man died of his injuries while undergoing treatment at the Kiribathgoda Government Hospital and his son is being treated for life-threatening injuries, police said. A hunt is on for the suspects who are yet to be identified.
Shop owner shot dead in Peliyagoda
PELIYAGODA: Two gunmen are alleged to have shot dead a shop owner at Pethiyagoda in Peliyagoda on Tuesday for apparently unexplained reasons, police said.
“There was no robbery involved and it was clear that the shop owner was the lone target of the gunmen,” police said.
They said the assailants had arrived on a motorcycle and fled immediately after the shooting.
No arrests have been made so far in connection with the incident. Peliyagoda Police are conducting further investigations.
Man commits suicide in bloodied video game drama
JAFFNA: A 22-year-old hanged himself after losing a violent video game at his family home in Illavali Kuvil in Jaffna on Thursday, police said.
Police quoted the victim’s family as saying that he had been addicted to violent video games on his smartphone for a considerable period.
On the day of the incident he had been playing video games on the phone and could not complete the challenge that was given to him, police said.
The smartphone was later found on his person and the Jaffna Police are conducting further investigations.
Vegetable vendor hacked to death
THANAMALWILA: A vegetable vendor was hacked to death at a weekly fair in Thanamalwila on Friday afternoon, police said.
They said the victim was attacked by two assailants who later went on to mutilate the corpse into four pieces.
The motive for the broad daylight attack was not immediately known but investigators said it could be over a personal dispute.
The 44-year-old victim was a resident of Kithulkota in the Thanamalwila Division.
No arrests have been made so far while the Thanamalwila Police are conducting further investigations.
