
Twenty-three students from 15 schools of the 3rd Battalion of the National Cadet Corps had their promotion insignia pinned by distinguished personalities at a ceremonial function at the battalion headquarters on April 20, 2022 under the leadership of Lt. Col T.S.M.F.W. Gunawardena the Commanding Officer of the battalion.
Sanath Jayalath the Principal of Royal College, Lal Dissanayake the Principal of Ananda College, Senior representative of other schools, officials of Ministry of Education and Justice, senior officers of the Cadet Corps and the parents graced the occasion and recognised the achievements of cadets.
Former Commander of the Navy, Former Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Australia and current Senior Consultant of CINEC campus Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe was the Chief Guest.
The highest promotion for a school cadet, the rank of Regimental Sergeant Major Warrant Officer I was achieved by K. M. D. H. Wickramasinghe of Royal College Colombo 7 and J.A.A.N. Jayasuriya of Vihara Maha Devi Girls College, Gampaha.
Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe himself being the 1973 3rd Battalion Regimental Sergeant Major from Royal College pinned the insignia on fellow Royalist, RSM K. M. D. H. Wickramasinghe along with the Principal Royal College, Senior Games Master and OC Cadet Contingent whilst Lt. Col J.A.U.P. Jayasuriya Staff Officer 1 NCC Headquarters pinned the insignia on his daughter RSM J.A.A.N. Jayasuriya along with Colonel P.D.R. Sarathchandra Provincial Deputy Director witnessed by parents.
The remaining promotion insignias of 21 cadets were pinned by distinguished personalities in the presence of respective school officials and parents.
