Philanthropist Harsha Dias watches a little girl sip a glass of purified water
For over 215 families living in the remote village of Kandahindagama in the Ampara district were provided with purified drinking water prior to the Sinhala and Tamil New Year owing to the generosity of philanthropist Harsha Dias.
Harsha, a small-time businessman in Colombo, contributed over 1.2 million rupees for the construction of a 500 litre capacity water purification system in the village. The project was coordinated by the ‘Gammedda’ program of a popular TV channel with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy.
The purification plant was commissioned two weeks before dawn of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
