Steps are now taken by Small Farmers’ Organizations of the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts of the NWP to launch a massive tree planting campaign under the guidance of newly appointed Agriculture State Minister and Kurunegala District parliamentarian Shantha Bandara. The aim of the program is to begin the Sinhala and Tamil New Year productively at the auspicious time on tomorrow.
About 100,000 plants of jak, mango, wood apple, guava, bread fruit, and coconut seedlings are to be planted in the home gardens in the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts.
Quality plants would be supplied to selected Farmers’ Organisations and school students and Sunday Dhamma school teachers for this purpose.
Organic fertiliser packets worth of Rs. 275,000/- too would be supplied to the growers free of charge by the Government,” Kurunegala District Agricultural Director R. A. Jayasekara told the Sunday Observer
