The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) yesterday issued restrictions on dispensing fuel for private vehicles at filling stations with immediate effect.
Fuel will be issued to motorcycles and other vehicles as follows:
Motorcycles will be issued petrol to a maximum value of Rs.1,000 at a time, three-wheelers - Rs.1,500 and vans and jeeps up to Rs. 5,000.
However, these restrictions will not apply to buses, lorries and tractors used for public and commercial purposes, the CPC stated.
The CPC clamped these restrictions following allegations that motor vehicle users filling their tanks had led to long queues near petrol sheds creating an artificial fuel shortage in the country.
