Spinners put Kandy ahead of Jaffna in Super League final

Spinners Lasith Embuldeniya (4 for 100) and Ashian Daniel (3 for 89) rocked Jaffna to a total of 227 all out after Kandy made a first innings total of 444 in their National Super League 4- day cricket final at the Galle International Cricket Stadium yesterday .

When rain halted the game on the third day with13 overs left Kandy had reached 52 for 1, a lead of 269 runs to be in a commanding situation.

Earlier Jaffna opener Nishan Madushka was the most successful batter scoring 57 in 124 balls with five fours while their key stroke maker Saminda Fernando was clean bowled by Asitha Fernando for just three runs in 17 balls.

Skipper Dhananjaya de Silva scored a brisk knock of 30 in 33 balls before he fell to young off spinner Ashian Daniel.

The spin all rounder Dilum Sudeera who was the most successful bowler for Jaffna with four wickets on the second day performed with the bat scoring a fighting unbeaten knock of 49 with 7 fours in 88 balls as a number eight batter but no one at the other end was able to support him as Jaffna were bundled out for 227.

Kandy is led by Kamindu Mendis and are tipped to win the trophy.
