
Over 1,800 Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) will be deployed countrywide to nab errant traders and hotel owners who sell expired food items and low quality coconut oil to consumers during the forthcoming New Year festive season.
The 1,800 PHIs will ensure consumers with quality and healthy food items for the New Year, President of the Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors’ Union, Upul Rohana told the Sunday Observer
He said the PHIs commenced raids countrywide from April 1 to nab errant traders who sell food items that are unfit for human consumption.
Almost 407 errant traders were arrested last month for selling expired food items and they are now being produced in court, he said.
