Kaushini Nuthyanga, a left hand opening batter from Anula Vidyalaya in Nugegoda scored an unbeaten 374 as her team defeated Marapola Maha Vidyalaya by a mammoth 512 runs in an under-19 girls’ inter school cricket match at Marapola last week.
Her mammoth score included 52 boundaries and 19 sixes and came off just 133 deliveries.
Kaushini and her co-opener and Shikhari Ranahanshi put on an unbroken partnership of 552 runs for the first wicket that marked a new phase in women’s cricket creating a new partnership record for any wicket in the schools cricket arena in Sri Lanka.
Ranahanshi played second fiddle in the stand and ended with an unbeaten 116 off 73 deliveries with 10 boundaries and four sixes.
But questions have also been raised on the standard of schoolgirl cricket in the country that is often played on lesser grounds compared to boys’ cricket while most games are mismatched.
