
Police Sports Club propelled by their run and pass game trounced Army by 25 points (4 tries, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) to 7 (1 try, 1 conversion) to qualify for the Cup segment in the Nippon Paint ‘A’ Division League Rugby tournament first round clash at Police Park yesterday.
It was the Police three-quarters who paved the way for this victory while their ‘Eight’ also gave a good display to outplay their counterparts in the loose.
Police virtually sealed victory by leading 25-0 at half time with tries coming from flanker Vageesha Weerasinghe, winger Janith Chanaka, full back Suranga Kasun and second row forward Mohan Wimalaratne. One try was converted by fly half Yohan Peiris who also slotted in the solitary penalty.
In the second half, Army had a consolation try scored by Chanaka Gunaratne with Tharindu Madushan Hettiarachchi converting.
Referee Ishanka Abayakoon had a good game with the whistle.
