Dissent among the rebels?

20 March, 2022

Four of the 11 rebelling or dissenting parties in the Government are apparently moving out of the recent alliance they formed, party sources said.

The SLFP, Yuthukama National Organisation, the Sri Lanka Mahajana Party and the United People’s Party will move out of the alliance.

The representatives of these parties said that they are yet to decide if they would contest alone or together with the SLPP at a future election.

None of the representatives of these four parties attended the meeting of the dissidents at the N.M.Perera Centre last week.

The SLFP, the biggest party among the dissidents, did not attend any joint events with the rebels after their main event, unveiling the national statement Mulu Ratama Hari Magata early this month.

However, these parties will continue to oppose Government policies, the representatives said.

The other parties in the alliance, National Freedom Front (NFF), Democratic Left Front, Sri Lanka Communist Party, LSSP, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya and Ape Jana Bala Party will be independent in Parliament but have decided not to join the Opposition.
