Women authors feted

A celebration organised by the Sarasavi Bookshop (Pvt) Ltd to appreciate and honour the contribution by Sri Lanka women authors from beginning to present day to the progress of the literature was held at Sarasavi bookshop in One Galle Face Shopping Mall recently.

Lectures were delivered by veteran writers Sunethra Rajakarunayaka, Dr. Madhubhashini Disanayaka Ratnayake and Charulatha Abeysekara Thewarathanthri on women’s contribution in literature and their challenges and concerns.

A Sinhala book titled Sri Sthree covering the issues, challenges and the life of the present Sri Lanka women written by Kanthi Wijethunga - an experienced administrative officer, a former secretary of the ministry and a member of the government services commission of the Western Provincial Council was launched.

Several interesting musical items and an appreciations program of Yamuna Malini Perera’s songs were included in the celebration.

Two short lectures were delivered by the Chapter One group, representing modern young writers and readers.

Awards of appreciation were presented to six award winning renowned woman authors in the fields of Sinhala and English creative writing as a symbol of honour and appreciation to all the Sri Lankan woman authors.
