Bhagavad Gita is a manual of life. It enunciates the ancient philosophy of Vedanta. Vedanta presents the eternal and universal principles of life and living which transcend the barriers of race and religion, caste and creed.
These principles equip one with a strong intellect to meet the challenges of the world at all levels – social, official and domestic. Thus one enjoys a rare combination of being dynamic and successful in one's endeavours externally and being happy and peaceful internally. Above all Vedanta ushers one towards the ultimate goal of human perfection within, the state of spiritual Enlightenment.
Chapter IV of the Bhagavad Gita explains how to convert daily activities into a yajna, worship. Yajna is one of the oldest rituals coming from the Vedic period and observed still in the modern era. The literal meaning of yajna is fire worship. In the Gita Lord Krsna gives a practical interpretation to yajna such that it can be applied in daily activities. Yajna signifies actions dedicated to a higher ideal and performed with a spirit of service and sacrifice. Thus by converting the daily activities into worship one attains prosperity, peace and ultimate perfection.
