A stunning performance in the second half enabled Colombo FC to notch up a 2-0 win over Maligawatta Youth and qualify for the semi-final of the inter club Under-19 soccer tournament played for the Expolanka Youth Cup at the City League ground yesterday.

After a scoreless first half, a super second half rally guided the Colombo FC lads to maintain their unbeaten record, scoring their fifth win in a row and reserving a berth in the all-important semi-final which is to begin early next month.

It was a thrilling game as both sides gave a scintillating performance in search of their maiden goal. But neither team could beat the rival custodian to make a dent in the score-line which led to a scoreless sheet at lemons.

After the turn around the winners imposed enormous pressure and made inroads into rival territory that was too much for the Maligawatta lads to handle as they caved in by allowing their rivals to boot two goals within a space of 13 minutes.

LM Lafir made the initial scoring in the 75th minute while B. Chalahasa put the issue beyond doubt when he chipped in with a spectacular goal to hit the final nail in the coffin to make them the third team to qualify for the semi-final stage after Colombo Veterans and Moragasmulla.

Saunders will take on Java Lane today at 3.30 pm behind closed doors.
