On day two of the Asian Central Zone Beach Volleyball Championship which is taking place at Negombo Beach Park, Sri Lanka moved further to be ahead of favourites Iran winning the third game.

At the time of reporting Sri Lanka Team 3 defeated Sri Lanka Team 1, 2-0 (21-10, 21-13) to take the top spot in the league. The other men’s games between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the former won it comfortably 2-0 (21-18, 21-16). In the men’ third game yesterday morning Iran once again out played Pakistan 2-0. This win brought Pakistan’s tally of wins to two after five games up to yesterday. This victory increased the number of victories for Iran to five but still they failed to go ahead of Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan women were in great form winning all three games to take the top spot in the standings of the league. Having beaten Team 3, Sri Lanka Team 1 also beat the Maldives 2-0.

On Friday, the Sri Lanka men recorded two wins when Tyronne Jayatilleke and Ashen Rashmika defeated Uzbekistan and later went on to beat Pakistan.

In another game Sri Lanka’s Nalin Perera partnered by Malintha Yapa went down to the Maldivian duo 2-1.

Sri Lankan women on the other hand came up with their best to register two good wins against Uzbekistan. In the first game Chathurika Weerasinghe and Hashini Malsha had no match and in the following game Shehani Asanga and Sulochana Jayawardene too showed their class against Uzbekistan to win.
