ANCL founder remembered

The 136th birth anniversary of the founder of The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL), D.R. Wijewardene was commemorated at the Lake House premises on Friday and Saturday. All-night Pirith chanting was held on Friday night followed by an alms-giving for members of Maha Sangha yesterday afternoon.

Wijewardene who challenged colonialism through the printed word, revolutionised the newspaper industry and journalism in Sri Lanka with his fearless commitment to expose the truth through the ANCL newspapers. Ranjith Wijewardene, the son of the late D. R. Wijewardene and ANCL Chairman W. Dayaratne, PC and Directors and staff members were present.


An alms-giving was held at Lake House yesterday afternoon to commemorate the 136th birth anniversary of the founder of The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL), D.R. Wijewardene. Here ANCL Chairman W. Dayaratne, PC with Director Legal and Administration, Rakhitha Abeygoonawardhana and Director Finance Janaka Ranatunga  participate in the Pen Wedima at the alms-giving. Director Editorial Dharma Sri Kariyawasam and Lake House officials were also present.
