
Impressive timings were set by some swimmers who got into the pool at the Open Time Trial event organized by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) held at the Sugathadasa swimming pool that ended yesterday.
It was interesting to see as many as 780 male swimmers and 647 female swimmers enter the trial in the age categories of under-11, 13, 15, 17, 20 and over. Most of these entries were in the age category of under-17 and 20.
The events that were worked out were for 400m freestyle, 50m breast stroke, 50m free style, 50m back stroke, 400m individual medley, 800m freestyle, 200m breast stroke, 100m butterfly, 50m butterfly, 200m freestyle, 100m back stroke, 1500m freestyle, 100m breast stroke, 200m butterfly, 200m individual medley, 100m freestyle and 200m back stroke.
“This meet is to gauge the status of our swimmers who have not participated in events for the past two years.
This will give them an opportunity to prove their worth and be enlisted for future selection if their timings are good,” said Nethru Nanayakkara an official of SLASU.
