Colombo FC concluded their final league game on a winning note with a 3-0 victory over Slave Island XI in the under-19 inter club football championship for the ‘Expolanka Youth Cup’ at the City League ground yesterday.

Leading 1-0 by the end of the first half, the winners went flat out to boot two more goals in the second half to notch up their fourth win and remain undefeated while heading their group.

After some anxious moments of play, the Colombo lads improvised well on opportunities on offer to initiate the scoring. In the 25th minute of the first half, Mohamed Manaf broke the shackles by heading the ball into the rival goal off a well executed pass from midfield.

After the turn-around the game transformed into a one-sided affair as the winners dominated play in all departments.

They imposed the pressure on their rivals with some tantalising moves by making inroads into the rival defence and were rewarded when Chamod Ratnayake (40th) and H.N. Anthony (54th) scored two goals to secure a comprehensive victory.

Manoharan strikes twice for Java Lane

Meanwhile in the second game Manoharan Jathusan scored two goals for Java Lane to snatch a 2-0 win over Ferguson. After leading 1-0 at the short whistle, Jethusan put up a belligerent performance to score the second goal to notch up their third win to keep their hopes alive to qualify for the quarter final which will be known after today’s matches.

Saunders will take on Victiry today at 4 p.m.
