The Sri Lanka Boxing Coaches Association (SLBCA) conducted a two-day boxing coaching camp at Mendis Power and Boxing Fitness Centre in Negombo with the participation of 40 coaches.

The lecturers at the workshop were Dr. Aravinda Wijemanna, Director Kelaniya South Asian Academy of Sport Science who delivered a lecture on resistance training and psychology, Capt. RK Indrasena, IBA Instructor, Susantha Weerasena, IBA 3-Star referee, Anura Arabage, senior lecturer at the University of Peradeniya who spoke on injuries and prevention, anti-doping, supplements and nutrition.

The SLBCA hopes to organize a Sports Science Certificate Level 1 and 2 boxing course in coordination with the National Institute of Sports Science this year and an anti-doping certificate course in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency.

“The main objective of the Coaches Association is to increase our coaches’ knowledge of boxing and to encourage their boxers to win medals at international competitions,” said SLBCA president Upali Bandara.
