Burgher Recreation Club (BRC) and Colombo Colts CC emerged men’s and women’s champions respectively in the fourth annual 9-a-side tournament conducted by the Colombo Hockey Association (CHA) at the Astro Turf Reid Avenue and at the Padang in Colombo Malay Cricket Club.
BRC defeated Old Nalandians Hockey Club 3-0 in the men’s ‘A’ division final with Mohamed Irshad, Dananjaya Bandara and Abeetha Fernando scoring the goals.
Colts beat University of Colombo 2-1 in the women’s final with Sanduni Gimhani and Imesha Lakshani scoring the winning goals.
The tournament was conducted in four divisions - Men’s A, B, C and Women with 39 teams competing for honours in a competition held after a lapse of one year because of the covid situation.
Colts bagged several individual awards with Suboda Jayasinghe (women) and Tuan Asif (men) being adjudged the best goalkeepers of the tournament while Pasan Mallawarachchi won the Best Player trophy in the men’s C division.
