Health guidelines should be followed strictly in schools from tomorrow, January 10 to prevent Covid-19 being taken to schools by children and to prevent them from taking the virus to their homes, Deputy Director General Health Services, Dr. Hemantha Herath said. He told a press briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau in Colombo on Friday that all normal activities in schools can be carried out in keeping with health guidelines.
Health guidelines should not be ignored at any time.
Health guidelines such as wearing masks, washing hands and physical distancing can be done easily in schools. Dr. Herath said that it is the responsibility of parents to encourage children to go to school and obtain the Covid-19 vaccine. Parents should not keep their children at home to avoid vaccination. Parents, teachers, school non-academic staff can obtain their booster dose at schools after informing the authorities and presenting their vaccination cards, he added.
