SLC imposes conditions on retiring cricketers

9 January, 2022

Expecting an exodus of players to overseas franchise leagues, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has imposed several conditions for anyone wishing to end their dealings with them. Under the new conditions, a contracted player will have to serve notice to the SLC three months in advance before they are permitted to leave the scene.

Even a retired player has to serve a six-month period before he could be granted what is called a “No objection certificate” to play in an overseas T20 franchise league.

Another condition is that retired Sri Lanka players could play in local leagues such as the LPL only if they have played in 80 percent of domestic cricket competitions prior to the T20 leagues.

In a media statement SLC said the decisions taken by them on Friday will come into immediate effect.
