Rotaract Club revived at KDU Southern Campus

19 December, 2021

The installation ceremony of the Rotaract Club of the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) Southern Campus was conducted in August this year.

In compliance with the prevalent health guidelines, the ceremony was held virtually. The event garnered 1,000 views via Facebook live. To signify the beginning of a golden era in the club, the installation was themed Surya Samprapthiya (Dawn of the Sun). The proceedings were given an edge by the organisers with a ‘mission impossible’ themed introduction to the executive committee and board of members. The Rotaract Club of the Southern Campus was launched in 2018 along with the very first intake of the campus, intake 32. The club’s numbers began to dwindle due to its location, away from any metropolitan city and due to the small student population. However, with a renewed interest by the Rector, Major General E.A.P.D. Edirisinghe, the club was resuscitated. Under new President Chaturika Waidyadasa, Kalana Perera and Vihangi Fonseka, new vigour has been brought to the club.

Within a few months, the club achieved many goals and targets. Considering the pandemic that has kept most of stakeholders at home, Rotaract clubs worldwide have strived their best to carry out their activities in a safe and healthy manner.
