Fabricated Society by Chamila Gamage

12 December, 2021

This exhibition is a series of batik paintings and is quite special to Chamila as it was done during the pandemic with his family members. Various techniques were adopted for these works such as waxing, boiling and colouring - which is essential to contemporary batik art.

"Fabricated Society means none other than multi cultural identities. Each and every country is enriched with various cultural identities and various social groups. Therefore , cultural diversity is accepted as a great aspect of a country by the whole world.

I have studied cultural diversity and various lifestyles , which existed among various indigenous groups belonging to various time periods and symbolically established it in visual art. This series of Paintings effuse the beauty which existed in cultural diversity and organic lifestyle , and it’s differences .

Establishing various cultural identities in one space was the main purpose. I personally believe we can break cultural barriers and go forward through this visual representation rather than linguistic form," - Chamila Gamage.
