Sri Lanka’s leading Sensei in the world of martial arts 60-year-old Athula Dhammika Minithanthri won another feather in his cap when he emerged champion in the first ever National Karate Virtual Kata Championship.

The Germany-based karate veteran who has won both the Kata and Kumite Sri Lanka national titles since the inception from 1978 and has over half a decade of experience in the sport, won the 61-65 years Male Kata category by scoring 24.16 points while his closest rivals had 18.94 and 18.60.

“I was not in a good state mentally because my brother was hospitalized for a serious operation. I practiced only for a short time and performed Kata only once in front of a camera before sending my entry,” said Minithanthri also known as Shihan Athula who thanked the Sri Lanka Karate-Do Federation for organizing this E-Kata tournament.
