The Chief Incumbent of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara Prof. Ven. Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangharakkhitha Thera has been appointed as the Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya.
He joined the academic staff of the Kelaniya University in 1993. Later, in 2006, he became a Professor of Buddhist studies.
He also served as the Head of the Department from 2006 – 2008.
The appointment followed the demise of Chancellor of the university Aggamaha Panditha Most Ven. Dr. Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Nayaka Thera.
