7 November, 2021

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday opened 1,500 roads under the project to carpet 100,000km of roads across the island.

The inaugural ceremony was held yesterday evening at the Mandaduwa Stadium in Weeraketiya under the patronage of the President.

1,500 roads covering all districts and electorates of the country have been completed. The roads were constructed within three months.

The President addressing the function said the revolutionary change promised through the ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’ policy statement of the Government will be fulfilled and urged the public including the farming community to place their trust in the Government.

President Rajapaksa called upon the farmers to come forward without hesitation to engage in their profession.

He said that changing the type of fertiliser used in plantation is a major change, adding that entrepreneurs could be created through this move.

President Rajapaksa said Sri Lanka is the first country to resort to complete organic farming, adding that home grown food can be exported. He said this goal is a challenge, and the Government would do its utmost to achieve this target.

The President said 6.9 million people voted for him, not for his face, but for his policies and that these policies clearly stated that the country will move to a green economy.

The President said experts harp on food security, and added that food security must be achieved without harmful substances. The President said ensuring this revolutionary change is a difficult task, he did not intend on inconveniencing farmers but will stand by his decision.
