Rumpelstiltskin

7 November, 2021

Once upon a time there was a poor man who had a beautiful daughter. One day, he took his daughter to the King of the land and said, ”My daughter can spin straw into gold.” The King was amazed and wanted to see how the girl spun straw in to gold.

The King put loads of straw into a room, placed a spinning wheel in it and shut the girl up in the room saying, “By morning all this straw must be spun into gold “. After the King left, the girl sat down and wept bitterly. She had never been able to weave straw into gold. Her father had lied to the King and now, the King was expecting her to weave straw in to gold. She did not know what to do.

Suddenly, a funny little man appeared in front of her. “I will help you to spin this straw in to gold but you must give me your necklace, “he said to the girl.

“I will give you my necklace" said, the girl.

The funny little man spun the straw in to gold, took the necklace and went away.

When the King came the next morning he was very happy to see the gold. He gave the girl more straw to spin in to gold by the next morning.

The poor girl was in despair again. Suddenly, the funny little man was before her.

“if you give me your ring I will help you“ said, the little man.

“Here is my ring “said the girl.

The little man took the ring and spun the straw in to gold.

When the King came the following morning he was delighted for gold filled the room.

He gave the girl more straw and said, “If you spin all this straw in to gold I will marry you and make you my Queen.

After saying this, the King left the room. Again, the funny little man walked in to the room.

“If you will give me your first child I will help you“ he said, to the girl.

“Yes, I will give you my first child” agreed the girl.

Soon, instead of straw the room was filled with gold.

As was his custom, the King came to the girl’s room the next morning. He was overjoyed to see the gold and decided to marry the girl.

A grand wedding was held with much feasting and rejoicing all over the countryside.

Now, the poor girl was the Queen of the land.

One day, the funny little man appeared before the Queen.

“if you can’t guess my name, you have to give me your first child” he said, to the Queen and disappeared.

The Queen started to cry but after a while she stopped and called her serving men and told them to find the little man’ name.

The men went all over the country but there was no sign of the funny, little man. Then one man came to a forest and he started to walk through it. Suddenly, he heard the sound of singing . The man quickly walked to the place from where the singing could be heard and hid behind a tree. He peeped round he tree and was happy to see that it was the little man.

The little man had made a bonfire and was dancing around it singing “The queen will never guess my name- Rumpelstiltskin is my nme”.

The man raced to the Palace and told the Queen that the little man’s name was Rumpelstiltskin. The Queen was overjoyed and rewarded the man handsomely.

The next morning when the funny, little man came to see her, the Queen said to him, “Is your name Rumpelstiltskin”?

The little man screeched in rage, stamped his feet and vanished into thin air. Rumpelstiltskin never bothered the Queen ever again.
