No threat to BIA

19 September, 2021

The Ministry of Defence has assured that there was no threat to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) and that the email warning of an attack was fake.

Defence Secretary Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne referring to the standard security measures adopted at the BIA said that there is no need for the public to panic due to the information disseminating over a fake email of a hostile nature received by the airport authorities.

The Defence Secretary said the country’s defence and law enforcement agencies are continuing their duties in the same vein without letting anyone disrupt the peace. He said two suspects involved in placing a hand grenade in a private hospital in Colombo for personal gain have been taken into custody and further investigations are being conducted by the police.
