Man held for brother’s death

DERIYANAGALA: A 54-year-old man is alleged to have been stabbed to death following a heated domestic quarrel in a house in Demeda, Deriyanagala, police said. They said the victim, who was single, died before admission to the local Government hospital.

The suspect was subsequently arrested along with an alleged accomplice to the incident.

Man commits suicide

BADULLA: A 37-year-old man who committed suicide was tested positive for Covid-19 in Milagastenne, Badulla.

The victim who was found hanging from a beam in the roof was single and living alone at the time of his death.

According to police, the victim who had several drug-related cases against him had opted to live alone following constant quarrels with his family.

A subsequent post-mortem examination confirmed that the man was Covid-19 positive.

Woman fakes pregnancy

MADAMPE: A woman is alleged to have faked her pregnancy to get her husband back.

He had deserted her for another woman.

This case was reported from Madampe.

According to police, the woman is alleged to have used a pillow that was cleverly concealed on her person to fake the pregnancy.

Sympathetic neighbours had provided the woman with food and other essential items before they became suspicious since she refused to be examined by regional health officials.

A complaint was made to the local police and the woman’s fraudulent claim was subsequently revealed.

At the time of detection, the woman was living with a paramour in a rented abode.

Man held over lover’s death

WELIMADA: A 33-year-old man was arrested after he is alleged to have killed and buried his secret female lover, three years his senior, at a house in Medahinna in Welimada.

Initial investigations have revealed that the suspect is alleged to have murdered the woman following a festering dispute between the pair.
