Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the World Health Organization (WHO) has reaffirmed its support for Sri Lanka to procure Covid-19 vaccines, medical equipment and supplemental oxygen.
In a tweet, the Health Minister said that he met WHO Representative to Sri Lanka, Dr. Alaka Singh on Friday (August 20).
On behalf of the WHO, Dr. Singh commended the Government for its efforts to ramp up the national inoculation drive. She offered to facilitate procurement of more Rapid Antigen Test kits. Responding to the Health Minister’s tweet, the WHO office in Sri Lanka stated that the organization is fully committed to support the island at this critical juncture.
The WHO will endorse the social measures Sri Lanka put in place on Friday, adding that these restrictions will reinforce the vaccination effort and reduce the burden on the health system, accelerating the Covid-19 recovery.
