Mother stabbed to death
CHENKALLADI: A drunken son is alleged to have stabbed his mother to death at their home in Chenkalladi in Eravur.
The 66-year-old victim died on the spot, according to police.
The 40-year-old suspect along with the suspected murder weapon was subsequently taken into custody. The motive for the killing was not clear but investigators believe that the incident may have been triggered following a heated argument between the mother and son.
Woman dies in bus
PANADURA: A woman died in a public bus that was travelling from Horana to Panadura. The woman’s limp body was found in a seated position by fellow passengers.
The bus crew had rushed the victim to the Panadura Government Hospital but she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The cause of death was not clear.
Short-lived freedom for drug suspect
HULFTSDORF: A suspect who attempted to bolt from the Hulftsdorf Magistrate’s Court was arrested by police officers on traffic duty.
The man who was brought for a court appearance on a drug offence had apparently given the slip to jailors and made a futile attempt to escape.
He was grabbed by traffic police officers on duty in the vicinity, after a brief chase.
