15 August, 2021

In an effort to strengthen bilateral ties with Sri Lanka, New Zealand opened the New Zealand High Commission in Colombo, allowing both countries to work more closely together towards securing the advancement of bilateral trade while also supporting efforts at promoting investments.

New Zealand is one of the world’s largest milk producers in the world, with the reputation of producing and supplying safe, high-quality nutritional and sustainable dairy products. Producing approximately 21 billion litres of milk annually, New Zealand provides three percent of the world’s milk supply, exporting 95 percent of its produced milk to over 130 countries across the globe.

New Zealand’s first resident High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Michael Edward Appleton, together with Andrew Traveller, the Deputy High Commissioner, met with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees to discuss current and future collaboration between both nations. The Ambassador said that New Zealand is pleased to share their technological prowess and knowledge of best practices within the dairy farming landscape to further develop the local dairy industry.
