Sri Lanka Test captain Dimuth Karunaratna is lined-up to represent Nottinghamshire in the ongoing English County Championship.
Karunaratne said it was a good opportunity to play in the English County season at a crucial stage of his career where he could gain valuable experience for the future.
Karunaratne has been sideline by the selectors and was not part of the Sri Lanka squad picked to play against India in the recent home ODI series. He was the captain of the Sri Lanka ODI team at the last World Cup played in England in 2019.
In his last Test series which was against Bangladesh at Pallekele, Karunaratne scored 118 and 66 in the first Test and made a career-best 244 in the second Test.
He became the 10th Sri Lanka batsman to score 5000 runs in Test cricket and the fourth fastest to do so in terms of matches played.
The 33 year old left hander has already played 72 Test matches scoring 5176 runs with 12 hundreds and 26 half centuries. In addition he played 34 ODIs with six half centuries.
