
Death in massage parlour
THALANGAMA: A 37-year-old man died while undergoing a massage at a spa at Thalawathugoda in Thalangama on Thursday morning.
Initial investigations have revealed that the victim was highly intoxicated with a cocktail of drugs and alcohol at the time of his death.He was also suffering from a poor heart condition.The man is reported to have entered the spa shortly after dawn on Thursday.
A female service provider who had attended on the victim was subsequently taken into custody for questioning.
Investigations have also revealed that the victim was heavily addicted to hard drugs and alcohol.
Man stabs wife and commits suicide
KAHATAGASDDIGILIYA: A 46-year-old man is alleged to have stabbed his wife to death and later hanged himself in Kukulewa in the Kahatagasdigiliya police division on Friday. The incident had taken place when the victim was walking on the road with another woman.
The suspect also attacked the other woman with the same weapon and she was rushed to the local hospital in a critical condition, police said. They said there was a festering dispute between the suspect and his wife and they were living separately.
Bogus Kachcheri busted
KIRIBATHGODA: A bogus kachcheri that turned out various important documents was busted in Wewelduwa in Kiribathgoda and a 66-year-old man was taken into custody.
Five fake National Identity Cards, a driver’s licence and an assortment of raw material used in the forgeries was also seized by the police.
The suspect is alleged to have carried out his clandestine operation for a considerable period of time and the premises was raided following a tip-off to the local police.
Soldier dies during hunting trip
INGINIYAGALA: A soldier on a hunting trip with relatives died instantly after he was accidentally shot by another poacher operating in the same area.
The incident was reported from Namaltalawa in Inginiyagala.
The 27-year-old soldier was on home leave at the time of the incident. A man was subsequently arrested along with a shotgun in connection with the incident.
Youth held in Rs. 400 mn drug bust
BANDARAGAMA: A youth was taken into custody along with 40 kilograms of heroin valued at Rs. 400 million from a safe house in Rerukana in Banadaragama on Friday, police said. They said a three-wheeler used to transport the heroin from one place to another was also seized at the same location.
Initial investigations have revealed that the 23-year-old suspect was part of a larger drug syndicate operating from the United Arab Emirates.
A Police Sub Inspector arrested earlier this month along with 50 kilograms of heroin in the Kalutara area is also believed to be linked to the same group, police said.
