18 July, 2021

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), which has played a leadership role across the South Asian region over many decades to develop the accounting profession, conducted a program aimed at facilitating technical support and capacity building for accountants and auditors in Maldives.

The online program educated Maldivian accountants and auditors on International Auditing Standards, as well as the tool kit developed for Small and Medium-Sized Practices (SMPs) which enabled participants to gain a deeper understanding of conducting high quality and cost-effective audits in compliance with international standards.  The online program was conducted by Partner, Ernst & Young, Sanath Fernando, Partner, BDO Partners, Jerad Dias, Partner, KPMG, Raditha Alahakoon and Senior Manager, Deloitte,  Chathumin Gunarathne.

Following the awareness program, a Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between CA Sri Lanka and CA Maldives this year, to develop and strengthen the accounting profession in both countries, apart from providing technical support and capacity building. The MoU ceremony was held virtually, and the agreement was signed by  President of CA Sri Lanka, Manil Jayesinghe and President of CA Maldives, Hassan Ziyath.

Prior to this year’s agreement, in 2015 CA Sri Lanka also signed an MoU with the Auditor General’s Office of Maldives to strengthen and develop the accounting and auditing profession in the Maldives. Over the years, CA Sri Lanka has been supporting countries across South Asia including the Maldives, Bhutan and Afghanistan to develop the accounting profession in their respective countries. CA Sri Lanka is a founding member of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), which is an apex body of SAARC.
