Peace and unity

23 May, 2021

Dear children,

In a few days we will celebrate the most important Poya in the Buddhist calendar- Vesak. The Vesak poya day marks the birth of Prince Siddhartha, the Enlightenment and the attainment of Nirvana by the Buddha.

One of the most important teachings of the Buddha was the practice of compassion or kindness towards everyone. And if we follow this teaching and practice, it the world will certainly be a better peace.

Be kind to people irrespective of race or religion. This will also foster unity among people.

There are those such as the elderly, the sick and the helpless people who have a great need of compassion and care. Dear children, please do go out of your way to help them.

Though the spirituality of Vesak is the most important factor there are things you can do which are fun like making Vesak lanterns.

This could be done with your friends even with those of another faith. Again doing so would be an act of kindness and a gesture of unity towards others. Just as people need compassion so do animals and birds.

It is just as important to be compassionate and caring towards animals.

Therefore, children please remember to make compassion and care part of your daily routine and see what contentment it will bring you. Have a blessed Vesak keeping in mind all health precautions and safety regulations. Remember, your health and wellbeing lies mainly in your hands.

So, until next time,

Good luck,

Aunty Nira
