Heat index advisory issued

1 April, 2021

The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre issued a heat index advisory for Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Mullaitivu and Vavuniya districts.

‘The temperature felt on human body is expected to increase up to ‘Extreme Caution’ level’, the advisory said.

The general public in the mentioned areas are requested to stay hydrated and limit strenuous outdoors or take breaks in the shade often if one works at a work site. They are also advised to wear lightweight, white or light coloured clothing. The elderly and sick people need to stay indoors while children should not be left unattended in vehicles.

The general public is further urged to refer to advisories issued by the Disaster Preparedness and Response Division as well as the Ministry of Health in this regard.
