Ministry of Tourism says that the Government will focus on formulation of a new national tourism policy in order to re-elevate tourism industry in Sri Lanka.
It was revealed that during a discussion between Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) to Sri Lanka, Robert Juhkam and the Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga, the new policy will take place under the theme of “Sustainable Tourism.”
Accordingly, the UNDP Fund will provide the following;
- A precise scrutiny on the impact of the Covid-19 on Sri Lanka's tourism industry.
- Preparation of a Tourist Road Map for the promotion of tourism in Sri Lanka
- Provide immediate assistance from the United Nations Development Fund and local advisers to the Covid-19 Fund as a solution.
- Developing mobile app for tourists visiting Sri Lanka.
- Providing human resource assistance to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.
Furthermore, the new national policy will focus on,
- Establishing a National Tourism Policy.
- Restoration of Tourism Strategy Plan.
- Establishing a technical consulting unit
