The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre issued an AMBER alert on heavy showers, strong Winds and rough Sea for the period until 02.30 p.m. 25 March.
“The possibility for heavy showers or thundershowers and sudden roughness, associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80 kmph) in the deep sea areas extending from Batticaloa to Hambantota via Potuvil areas is high”, the advisory states.
Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
