
HelpAge Eye Hospital that performs free cataract surgeries commenced operations last week for the benefit of senior citizens keeping in line with health guidelines after the covid-19 second-wave.
The hospital performs 20 free cataract surgeries a day on low income group senior citizens over 55 years at HelpAge Eye Hospital, Sinsapa Road, Wellawatta, Colombo 6.
HelpAge invites countrywide less-privileged senior citizens to have their cataract surgeries free at the hospital.
HelpAge Chairman Tilak de Zoysa said the HelpAge Eye Hospital was reopened following requests by senior citizens from all parts of the country.
HelpAge Eye Hospital Manager Lakshman Amaratunga said cataract surgeries will commence from January 25 and requested patients to contact the Eye Hospital on 0112589450 /0112500056 to avoid any inconvenience.
HelpAge Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge said that the Hospital completed 38,000 free cataract surgeries on senior citizens from its inception.
The Executive Director said surgeries are performed free of charge by qualified doctors using high quality eye lenses with the state-of-the-art technology.
