
Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake said the Committee on Parliamentary Business has decided to commence the first sitting of Parliament on January 5, 2021.
A meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane was held on December 8 to decide on the business to be debated.
The Committee decided to increase the number of members of the Committee on Finance from 18 to 21. Accordingly, one member will be added from the ruling party and two members from the Opposition. Deputy Chairperson of Committees Angajan Ramanathan, Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena, Chief Government Whip Johnston Fernando, Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella, Ministers Wimal Weerawansa, Mahinda Amaraweera, Prasanna Ranatunga and MPs Mahinda Samarasinghe, Gayantha Karunatilleka, Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, Dilan Perera, Mano Ganesan and M. A. Sumanthiran were present.
