The Sri Lanka men’s and women’s chess teams are ready to participate in the Asian Nations Cup Online Championship 2020 to be held from October 10 to 24 via Chess.com online platform.
Sri Lanka fields a strong Youth team this year under the captaincy of Minul Doluweera of Royal College with Sri Lanka’s best International Master elect Harshana Tillekeratne (Maliyadeva College), the new National champion Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage (Ananda College), the youngest LMST de Silva (Nalanda College) and Theekshan Denuwan (Ananda College).
The Sri Lanka women’s team is led by experienced Sachini Ranasinghe and will consist of the new National women’s Champion Nethmi Fernando (Girls High School, Kandy), Sandeepani Tharushi (Devi Balika Vidyalaya), Ashvini Pavalachandran (Wycherley International School) and THD Tharushi Niklesha (Visakha Vidyalaya)
As many as 39 Asian countries have registered in the men’s Division while 32 are confirmed in the women’s event. (DR)
