Three flyovers for Slave Island

30 August, 2020

Three flyovers will be constructed in Slave Island to ease traffic congestion in Colombo.

Highways Minister Johnston Fernando said a study has identified that Slave Island has the worst traffic flow due to the level-crossing.

It has been revealed that traffic congestion remains for hours every day given the rail-gate is closed many times during rush hours.

It has been proposed to construct two 420-metre flyovers across Uttarananda Mawatha and Justice Akbar Mawatha. The length of the flyover across Baladaksha Mawatha will be 350 metres.

The project will cost around Rs. 6 billion, according to Minister Johnston Fernando.
