Athletes in Sri Lanka will get a rare opportunity to train on high altitude in preparation for international events in the future as Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa has pledged to build a track in Nuwara Eliya on a request made by the president of Sri Lanka Athletics, Major General Palitha Fernando.
The proposed track will be on a land near Piduruthalagala which is Sri Lanka’s highest mountain rising over 7000 feat. The track will be 600 metres long and will be made of gravel. “We have been successful at the Asian Junior, South Asian Games, Youth Olympics and World Junior Games and on hearing this the Sports Minister has promised to offer his fullest support to develop the sport,” said an official of Sri Lanka Athletics.
