Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) is to experiment a return to the sport in the aftermath of the coronavirus through a Sevens tournament but only after they receive the green light that the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association has been able to adhere to health and safety regulations that will be monitored by government authorities.
As a first step into looking into the possibility of restarting matches, the new SLR president Rizly Illyas who will take over the reins next week, will submit a document and framework guidelines for schools and clubs to follow. It will be enforced by Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) who will provide SLR with a feed back.
Illyas said he will be conducting a workshop to educate schools and clubs on the need to adhere to present health requirements that also includes testing of players in one of the most physical and body contact sports.
“At this moment in time we can only look into the prospects of playing matches somewhere in November and that is also after we get the okay from the Healthy Ministry that will have to enforce the guidelines,” said Illyas.
