For those of you who cannot visit the museum this summer, we invite you to join us for a conversation and a closer look at some of the works on display in our two current exhibitions: “The Experimental Self - Edvard Munch’s Photography” and “Yonder - Edvard Munch and Nature”.
In Munch’s time, as in ours, anxieties about illness and illnesses themselves spread through densely populated cities. Many people sought renewal and recreation at the coast and in nature where bathing and physical activities promised health and strength. Munch travelled to Åsgårdstrand and Warnemünde where he photographed and painted himself, friends, and models.
His activities were part of a wide-spread Reform movement that sought the sun, leaving the sickness and contamination in the city behind.
Join us for a conversation about Munch’s photographs and paintings related to this theme with curators Patricia Berman and Signe Endresen. The talk will be held in english.
