Yachting to be held in December

26 July, 2020

The Yachting Association has planned to conduct the IODA Asian and Oceanian Optimist Championship in early December in Colombo.

It had originally been slotted to be held from June 6 to 13 contested by competitors from 14 nations in Trincomalee.

It was postponed several times with the spread of COVID 19 pandemic.

Operations director of the Yachting Association, Sarath Kuragama, told the Sunday Observer that due to the monsoon the venue of the competition has changed.

“First we decided to conduct this championship in Trincomalee. But now that it has been postponed, we cannot hold it there in December.

“Previously we had decided to have it in Negombo. But finally, we have decided to conduct it at Galle Face. We are trying to conduct it from December 6 to 13,” Kuragama said.

“Before the pandemic 140 had registered to participate but now we hope sixty competitors will turn up,” added Kuragama.
