Matara Thomian deprived of claiming 100 wickets

Leading wicket taker in the 2020 inter-school cricket season, 17 year old Sineth Dissanayake from St. Thomas’ College Matara missed the 100 wicket milestone in the ‘Singer Trophy’ Under 19 Division One tournament due to Covid 19 outbreak.

A left arm leg spinner Dissanayake claimed 95 wickets in 15 matches and steered the Matara Thomians to qualify for the quarter finals of the tournament.

His best performance in an innings was eight wickets for 19 runs against St. Mary’s College Kegalle and his best bowling figures in a match was 11 for 31 runs against the same team.

He represented the college under 19 team and took over 60 wickets with five five-wicket hauls in the under 19 season of 2018/19.

He claimed 10 wicket hauls three times against Devapathiraja Ratgama (11/ 71), Vidyartha Kandy (10/67) and St. Mary’s Kegalle (11/31) in the 2019/2020 season which was disrupted by the coronavirus.

He claimed five-wicket hauls on eight occasions against Devapathiraja (7/18), Trinity (5/53), Vidyartha (6/36), Lumbini (5/73), Thurstan (5/61), Zahira (5/42), Richmond (5/25) and St. Mary’s Kegalle (8/19)

St. Thomas’ College Matara qualified to the quarter finals in the under 19 division one two-day tournament when they beat DS Senanayake College Colombo in the pre quarter final. (YK)
